Etiquette of Speech
The word etiquette is the most significant aspect in one's personality finding expression in almost all facets of one's disposition towards disparate issues; engraving a lasting impression on one's character depending on its portrayal; basically summing up of the apparent manifestation of etiquettes would be the basis for the grooming of one's nature; the underlying factor in every expression of one's temperament, of all its aspects the etiquette of speech is the most significant as it is the speech which is the clear exhibition of one's character.
Speech has its origin in the very thought pattern as thought precedes speech. Hence, ethical thinking forms the platform for speech and a good thinking process is in turn dependent on good etiquette. The etiquette of speech branches out into two classifications; one being the discretion in the choice of words and the second being the tone in which the message is delivered. Both shares an equal importance as to falter in one could mar the other.
The first and foremost aspect of the etiquette of good speaking is the clarity in one's speech. Ambiguous chattering would not serve the purpose of the presentation of the idea of the conversation. Deliverance of a matter should be prompt than beating around the bush. The tone has to be maintained in accordance to the person whom it is delivered to. It is suggestive of adopting a gentle and a respectable tone when talking to elders; a vibrant and an energetic tone can be employed to some one dear or people of the same age group and with children a sweet and an affectionate tone modulation should do the job.
One should be watchful enough to present one's speech in a cultured manner. Courteous words like ' thank you ' and 'nice of you' etc should be combined with a pleasing tone. On occasions of greeting someone the presence of certain warmth in the tone is compulsory. Interruption fails in the receptivity of taking in the subject conveyed.
To adopt a language that cannot be comprehended in a crowd or group should be avoided. It is equally important not to engage in embroilment and if the person engaged in conversation with you takes to bigotry modes of talking it is suggestive to keep mum. It is also not becoming to spill the beans of somebody's secret or to wash another's dirty linen in public and to let the cat out of the bag when it is not supposed to; traces of un acceptable behavior. A humble demonstration has to be employed when mentioning one's own merits or achievements. A word of encouragement to the depressed would aid in lightening a pain filled heart. Words of harsh remarks to the subordinates would not aid in acquiring the required results. It is advisable to put it in an acceptable way.
A refined language is an embodiment of perfect speech etiquette.
