Drums of Heaven

It was an otherwise eerie night. Darkness had set in with all vivacity, the cold breeze sending chills down the spine. There was still a fresh aroma of romance in the air. At a distance, it looked like morning had dawned. Got closer to dawn on the other side only to see an overflowing surge of people dancing away in a state of trance. Just then someone popped in the magic ingredient and he was there.....I know not where.

This is the rave culture that happens with all vigor, zest and love. Millions of ravers around the globe absolutely love everything about it. Dance, music and drugs. All part of fun, they say.

The term rave first came to be used in Britain in the late 1950's referring to the wild bohemian parties. A rave is an all night event, with loads of music, people and dance. It is a break away from the monotonous way of life, for many it is to reach a higher state of consciousness, with the pill and music.

Higher level of consciousness through music is also reached by many with Trance- dance and music. For lovers of trance and psychedelic music the name of Goa Gil is synonymous with it. Grown up in the 1960s amidst lots of music, in San Fransisco, he came to India in 1969 and did intense yoga with yogis in the Himalayas. He lived like one among them and was called Baba Mangalanand. Wherever he went he would play the spiritual songs he composed, on his guitar, especially in Goa. This earned him the name of 'Goa Gil.' It was after this that he decided to merge Music and Yoga into one spirit, which ultimately resulted in the Goa Full Moon parties, which is popular world over and draws crowds from far and wide.

The Trance music and dance experience sets off a chain of reactions in the system, which builds connection between oneself and the cosmic spirit. But the experience is different for different people. For some it is a spiritual journey and for some it is fun. Nothing wrong with either. Music here is just a vehicle of transmission to the other world.

Trance music is a subgenre of electronic dance music that developed in the 1990s. It could be described as a melodic, combination of techno and house. Goa or psy trance takes its name from Goa in India. It is an incarnation of trance music with a more complex texture of psychedelic sounds. The drug of choice for Goa trance fans is usually LSD.

Not always on drugs, the Trance dance, is an experience of the soul. Seekers of higher level of consciousness and cosmic spirit have experienced bliss and comfort through this dance form. The body, mind and soul are surrendered to the music allowing it to float through the Cosmos feeling the abundance of energy. Trance dance is close to meditation where the mind is emptied inside- out to be filled again with higher energy levels, awareness and internal dialogue which is no more than a quest to know oneself without the shades of ego. There is so much peace and love all around that one wonders why the world is starved of them.
Trance dance is more often than not enjoyed with eyes closed. Closing all doors of materialism to experience the divine. Trance dance is pure ecstatic energy which is an ancient spiritual ritual to heal purely through spiritual ecstasy. This form of dance builds the gap between the spirit and the body. In a state of trance as you dance away place yourself close to the heart of your loved one and feel the surge of warmth, affection, love and a sense of security which thoroughly lacks in the world we live today.

Music and dance knows no bounds. They can't be tied down. It's a flow which takes us with them through a series of emotions, difficult to explain- blissful to experience. As the body dances, the soul travels knowing no limitations, a journey in time- through space.

Life is a little journey wiled away most times running effortlessly after mirages and shadows wanting to posses them all. The quest for more than just the norm can open floodgates of energy and life in a true sense, slowly building a connection with the higher world. Ponder on how you have spent the past ten years of your life and how would you want to spend the few remaining ones. Ecstasy, LSD...need'nt be used at a trance dance. An open heart and soul is sufficient to give you that feel. Ready to take on?
