Lighting the Way: Brands' Diwali Campaigns That Are Stealing the Spotlight This Year
The festival of lights, Diwali is right here! And the air is filled with excitement and anticipation for celebrations that bring families and friends together. This festive season is not just about the dazzling lights and delicious sweets; it's also a time when brands join in the celebration, creatively connecting with the spirit of the holiday. This year, several standout campaigns have emerged, showcasing how brands can embody the warmth and togetherness of Diwali.
Let's take a closer look at the Diwali brand campaigns that are lighting the way and capturing our hearts this season.

Cadbury
First on the list of Diwali essentials is definitely sweets. And who doesn't love a Cadbury bar? As Diwali celebrates family connections, those who are far away from their loved ones long to come together for the festivities.
Cadbury's campaign beautifully captures this theme by using its chocolate boxes to foster connections with loved ones.
By promoting the idea that sharing food and chocolate strengthens bonds, Cadbury, in collaboration with IRCTC, offers an innovative solution where people can scan their chocolate boxes to secure a confirmed seat to travel home this Diwali.
Zomato
For those who have a huge number of guests for their Diwali party, or don't feel like cooking at home, online apps like Zomato are a saving grace. This online app is celebrating Diwali in a quirky campaign called "Mission Diwali." The advertisement features popular actor Piyush Mishra as a government official who communicates with an astronaut named "Satya from NASA."
In this entertaining 95-second film, the astronaut struggles to spot Diwali lights from space and the government official receives a string of disappointing updates with a "Negative, Sir" from his side. However, everything changes when a Zomato delivery agent arrives with a box of kaju katli (Indian sweets), that catches the astronaut's attention when he finally says an excited "Positive, Sir!"
The grandfather cum government official jokingly suggests a caption for the astronaut's photo, "Mithai Zomato karo, desh ko roshan karo" (Order sweets from Zomato, brighten the country). This witty line perfectly reflects the campaign's message that food connects people during the festive season.
Zomato's Diwali campaign has received great feedback on social media, with one user on X praising it as a "fantastic use of a popular Diwali 'meme' in its Diwali 2024 ad!"
Flipkart
Flipkart started a similar witty campaign for Diwali on October 21st. The ad fools the viewers into believing that a wife is lamenting on seeing her husband ageing badly, when in fact she is actually complaining about the T.V. behind him which she then throws aways in anger. She finds the perfect way to replace the age-old item by buying a new one on Flipkart and making good use of the Big Diwali Sale on offer.
OnePlus
One Plus has also come up with an interesting Diwali campaign "Make It Special For Everyone" that includes furry animals. The ad film captures the festive spirit of Diwali through a heartwarming story about a family and their pet dog, who adds a warm vibe to the celebrations. It shows the unconditional love pets have not only for their families but also for other animals, like dogs in need of shelter.
Inspired by their pet's kind nature, the family decides to include these homeless animals in their Diwali festivities, showing how small acts of kindness can create a meaningful celebration for everyone.
Not just that, this popular smartphone brand is leading a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative with the Heads Up For Tails Foundation to help nearly 20,000 shelter animals by providing essential supplies like food, medicine, and seasonal care products.
Netflix
Netflix India's Diwali campaign, 'Har Parivaar Ke Liye', celebrates how stories can bring people closer. From cosy family movie nights to streaming on the go, Netflix showcases how its wide range of shows and movies creates connections, uniting friends, families, and even strangers.
Netflix's Diwali campaign highlights how its stories bring people together, celebrating the joy of connection and discovery. Whether it's during a long train ride, in a lively hostel, or at a cosy family movie night, Netflix is there-sparking conversations, laughs, and shared moments. From marathon binges to that familiar "Are you still watching?" prompt, Netflix creates a space where family, friends, and even strangers feel connected.
And guess what? Our very own Google India is not far behind in celebrating Diwali. You can be part of a unique interactive super lit experience called 'Dekho Dekho Diwali Aa Gayi,' letting users light virtual diyas, make rangoli, and enjoy sweets on their screens. This fun feature brings Diwali's cherished traditions to life digitally, creating a festive vibe right on the Google search page.
To wrap up, as these campaigns illuminate the celebration, they remind us that Diwali is not just about lights and sweets; it's about coming together and spreading joy. By embracing these values, brands are not only stealing the spotlight but also inspiring us to create meaningful connections this festive season.
