As Diwali is approaching near, there is a sudden peak in demand for owls, red sand boa and special turtles with 20 nails that are preferred, as people use these animals to complete their Tantrik rituals. All these animals are believed to bring great fortune to the person conducting the rituals.

Though most of the people are not aware of this practice, the Forest Department officers are claimed to have declared a red-alert in their respective states. The forest guards and the subordinate forest department staff are believed to have tightened the wildlife security, as they help in trapping the smugglers who work a little extra during the season.

The chairman of the wildlife NGO Endangered Flora and Fauna on Earth Conservation Team (EFFECT) named Dr. Abhishek Singh revealed that the demand for these creatures has increased ahead of Diwali due to the significance of these animals in some Tantrik rituals. "Apart from those seeking owls to sacrifice ritually on Diwali night, there are some who want the owl simply to earn money from showing it to believers on Diwali night," is what he said.
The Owls Are In High Demand…
It is said that the owls that weigh more than 2.5 kg, and have special characteristics like reddish eyes and ear with tufts like the rock eagle owl or the brown wood owl, are said to be in high demand with people ready to pay exorbitant prices. People also call the authorities and request them to get the owls from the national parks for a couple of days. They also promise to return the bird alive without any damage. These requests are mostly got from the people who are keen on getting fame.
