Dowry
In India, when a girl is married and sent to her husband's house, she is often given gifts by her family. These gifts over a time have evolved and are now termed as 'dowry'. Even though this practice is illegal in India, some of the people in India can be seen still following it.

Child Marriage
Child marriage is practised in some rural communities, even though it has been banned since years. In India, the legal age for marriage is 18 years for girls and 21 years for boys. But, in villages and rural communities, people still practice child marriage even now, and the bride and groom are married at a very tender age.

Baby Dropping
Two-year-old babies or even less aged toddlers are dropped from a tower of about 50 feet, with crowds standing at the foot of the tower to catch the baby. According to the belief, this is done to attract good luck in the family. This tradition is followed in some of the remote areas in India.

When People Roll Over Leftovers Of Food
This is a ritual that is performed by Brahmins mostly in the state of Karnataka. The lower caste people roll on the leftover food on the banana leaf and it is believed that it would heal a person from illness and ailments.

Aghori
The Aghori Sadhus of Banaras try to connect with God, in a very subtle manner. They smear their bodies with ash and have long matted hair. They dwell in cremation grounds, smear their bodies with the cremation ashes, and also use bones of human corpses to make bowls or jewellery. They are also famous for performing black magic and are also called ‘Tantriks'.

Kesh Lochan
This is a ritual that is mainly followed by Jains and Buddhists, where the person scarifies his hair. They don't just go bald in a single shot, instead they do it by plucking out their hair, maybe by themselves or with the help of someone else. The wounds are covered in dried cow dung ash to be healed.

Smashing Coconuts On The Head
This bizarre ritual or practice is carried out in Tamil Nadu when thousands of devotees flock the Mahalakshmi Temple, in the Karur District of Tamil Nadu. The priests believe that smashing of coconuts on the heads is a sign of good luck and health.
