A province in Indonesia has a bizarre annual ritual where people dig up their dead relatives from the graves and give them a wash and even go to the extent of dressing them up with the latest-fashioned clothes.
Though this practice sounds bizarre, it is known to be practiced around in this province and people follow this tradition as per their financial status as well.

This Ritual Is Called…
The ritual is called "Ma'nene, or The Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses". This ritual is practiced in Toraja, in South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
It Is Also Called…
This is also called the "second funeral", in which the families pull out their dead relatives' corpses every few years once and change their clothes and clean their bodies and crypts.
The Graves Are Dug Up!
The families dig up the dead bodies of their relatives who have died. They wash, groom and even dress these dead bodies up in fancy new clothes.
According To The Rituals…
If a person had died on a journey, the family would go to the place where the person had died and accompany the deceased back home by walking them back to the village.
The Damaged Coffins Are Fixed…
Damaged coffins are fixed or replaced, and the mummies are then walked around the province by following a path of straight lines.
The reason why this weird practice is followed is because the people here feel that they are not excluding the departed souls from their minds and are also letting them be a part of their lives. They still want to feel connected to their departed relatives and hence follow this bizarre practice.
