Grannies Of This Town Love Going To School
These grannies are setting a trend by going to school at their old age. Check out the reason behind this…
It is believed that there is no age for learning and this school just proves it right! A school in Fangane village in Maharashtra's Thane district is built to educate the elderly women of the town.
The school is called 'Ajibainchi Shala' and has over 29 students who are aged between 60 and 90 years attending the school.

Check out the interesting story behind this school of elders, which make us realise that there is no age limit or it is never too late to learn anything.

Their Day Starts With…
The grannies start their day with a prayer. They practise writing Marathi alphabets on their blackboards and recite them aloud. Apart from this, they learn the fundamentals of Mathematics, alphabets and nursery rhymes at the school.

The School Was Started Last Year (2016)
This school was started last year on the International Women's Day by Yogendra Bangar who travels 75 km every day to teach these grannies. He claims that this initiative has helped the village achieve 100 per cent literacy.

The Women Are More Confident Now…
After learning the basic things in this school, it has not only boosted the self-esteem of these grannies, but they now are capable of reading the documents before signing them and none of them are known to use their thumb imprint anymore!

The Oldest Student is 87 Years Old
Ramabai is one of the oldest students of this school and she is 87 years old. Even though she has a tough time hearing, she is keen on learning and is determined about it too. She claims that her self-confidence has increased after attending the school.

The School Has Done More Than Educating Grannies…
Yogendra Bangar claims that the initiative of starting a school has not only improved the level of education, but it has also made the village defecation free, and every family now has their own toilet as well. The grannies also water the saplings that they have planted at the school compound.
