When we hear the word "Mansion or Castle", thoughts of beautiful buildings pop up along with real rich men living in one of them. However, it is not a happy scene all the time.

In this article, we are here to share about some of the most beautiful mansions and castles that are left abandoned.

When you have a peek at these mansions and castles, it gives you an idea of how lavish and beautiful the life of these people was. This also reminds us that nothing is permanent in life.

These are the crumbling mansions that stood high once upon a time and people envied to see such a beautiful mansion rise. Now, they are left to dust and are hosts for insects and nothing more.

Pidhirtsi Castle, Pidhirtsi, Ukraine

This castle was built between 1635 and 1640. It was well furnished during World War I; however, sadly, the Russian soldiers destroyed the interiors of the house. Later, as years passed by, this mansion was converted as a "Tuberculosis sanitarium". But again, unfortunately, it caught fire and the building got burnt for 3 long weeks. The Lviv Gallery of Arts has been trying to restore the building but not much has happened since then.

Château Miranda, Celles, Belgium

This mansion was built in the year 1866 by an English architect for the Liedekerke-Beaufort family. The family lived there until World War II, when it was taken over by National Railway Company of Belgium. It has been deserted since 1991.

Halcyon Hall, Bennett College, Millbrook, New York

This was built as a luxury hotel in 1890, but was closed in 1901. After a few years, the Bennett School for Girls moved in, making the building a home school for kids from prominent families. However, the school failed to thrive for long and thus went bankrupt leading it to be abandoned.

Kasteel van Mesen, Lede, Belgium

This building is almost 500 years old. It was built as a functioning castle. It had a gin distillery, tobacco factory, etc; and after World War II, a boarding school for girls was started in the same building. However, in 1971, after the French education was banned in Flemish regions, the school was closed and it remains abandoned till date.

Lillesden Estate Mansion

This mansion was built between 1853 and 1855 by a banker named Edward Lloyd. After World War I, the mansion was sold and it became a public school. The school was abandoned later on in 1999.

Bannerman Castle, Bannerman Island, New York

This island was built to advertise the military surplus business of Francis Bannerman. After his death, over 200 tons of ammunition shells and powder destroyed a part of the castle and after a few years, a fire destroyed a major portion of the castle and since then it has been left abandoned.

Muromtzevo Mansion, Russia

This castle was built by the best architect in Russia known as P. S. Boitzov. However, he was forced to flee from this lavish creation during the Russian Revolution. The building was later used as a college and also as a hospital. But now, it is just to the dust, as it is abandoned.
