ICW 2014: Varun Bahl’s Modern Indian Woman

On Day 3 of ICW 2014, we have 3 interesting designer collections scheduled. There was Varun Bahl presenting the second collection for the day. He titled his collection ‘India Modern'. This is also the basic gist of this collection. Varun showcased every single piece of clothing that would be essential for a modern Indian woman's wardrobe.

In his own words, Varun Bahl said that his ICW 2014 collection was about an Indian woman who is a global fashionista. However, his collection should not be misunderstood as an Indo-Western collection. So he has worked with cigarette pants, sarees and anarkali gowns that are most oft seen in a modern Indian woman's possession. The only thing that connects these otherwise disconnected pieces of clothing is an Indian woman's sensibility.

Varun Bahl's Collection

In a jiffy, Varun Bahl has given us almost every kind of clothing that a modern Indian woman would need.

Varun Bahl's collection was heavy on the black colour palate. But there was one particular off-white anarkali that really stole the show. There was a bit of everything in this collection. There is almost everything in this collection for a woman who wants to live in New York or New Delhi. Varun Bahl has given us a collection at India Couture Week 2014 that will be cherished by the average woman of India. You do not have to be a globe trotter to own these garments.

We saw delicate hemlines from Varun Bahl's couture. There were a number of garments that were shaded or dual coloured. The use of bright pink to shade the white sarees and lehengas was particularly noticeable. We saw a number mustard coloured outfits in this collection the inspiration for which comes from Indian folk art. Dipped hemlines and floral embroidery were also noticeable elements in this collection.
