ICW 2014: Monisha Jaising’s ‘World Bride’

Paris is called the Fashion Capital of the world and French style is supposed to the epitome of fashion in every time. But the French did not become the fashion leaders of the world in one day. It started way back during the Renaissance in the 17th and 18th century. The French painters and artists were the fashion trend setters before Dior and Chanel came into being. On the ramp of ICW 2014, 18th century France was recreated in classic ‘Rococo' style today. Monisha Jaising's ICW 2014 collection ‘World Bride' draws its inspiration from the Rococo style of art and fashion that rose to the zenith of popularity during the 18th century.

The Rococo style came into being in the 18th century as a replacement of the Baroque style of art and architecture. The main elements of this style were easy breezy colours, pastel shades and a generally happy approach to fashion. The elements like lace, floral prints and playful designs that were part of this style flourished during the reign of Louis XIV.

The ramp of India Couture Week 2014 was turned in a street from Paris for Monish Jaising's show. There was typical French café that is seen on the roadsides in Paris. There were also a couple of artists with cocked French caps who were painting the models live. The show began with the model posing for portraits.

The first part of the collection comprised of some typical French ballroom gowns from the late Baroque era. Then there were some leme sarees, sequined chiffon gowns and sarees that followed. The gold embroidery that we saw in this collection was very ‘French'. However, it was interesting to see how the French style elements were adapted into Indian clothes.

Lisa Haydon was the show stopper for Monisha Jaising's collection. Lisa Haydon's ICW 2014 outfit comprises of a fit and flare black leather skirt with gold embroidery and a white collared shirt that was tied up at the waist. She also wore the traditional Punjabi chura to highlight that she was a ‘World Bride'.
