IBFW 2014: Suneet Varma’s Bold Brides

IBFW 2014 has been a surprising event so far. On Day 1, Tarun Tahiliani shocked us by showcasing bridal outfits in black colour that is considered inauspicious for the brides in India. Then came the collection of Gauri and Nainika that had stunning cuts on the bridal dresses. Today, we saw Suneet Varma's IBFW 2014 collection that presented the demure Indian bride as a bold goddess.

What struck us as novel about this collection is the fact that even as a bride a woman should not be scared to show off her sensuality. The designs in Suneet Varma's IBFW 2014 collection were bold and revealing. The fit and flare lehengas and lehenga sarees were paired with deep cut cholis. The cutout cholis and bustier blouses made the brides ooze sexuality. This line of outfits was inspired by the Jaipur bridal tradition.

Traditionally, a bride should be shy, hesistant and demure. But Suneet Varma has changed the rules of bridal fashion by creating designs to emphasize on the modern Indian woman who is not afraid to show some skin aesthetically. For this purpose, she chose the perfect showstopper. Kangana Ranaut graced the IBFW 2014 ramp in a maroon coloured bridal outfit from Suneet Varma's couture.

Apart from the bridal attires that included sarees, lehengas, anarkalis and shararas, the head gears of the models caught our eye. Designer Suneet Varma is known for creating innovative head pieces. He used the crown of spikes as a standard piece for this collection. Almost all his models wore this head gear and it complemented their goddess like look.

The brides walked on to the ramp with their heads covered in sheer drapes. One of the brides also had her face covered with a white drape. This style is inspired by the Jaipur tradition.

Some of the lehengas in this collection were fit and flare. A typical fit and flare lehenga can also be described as a fishtail or mermaid cut lehenga.

Here you can see that beaded details have been used to enhance the clothes. One of the models is wearing a beaded blouse. The other model is wearing an anarkali with a beaded bust.

Jacket Blouses

Instead of wearing normal blouses, the models wore velvet jackets over which they drapes their ornate sarees. This royal blue number is our favourite from this collection.

Cutout Blouses

This collection was quite ‘bold' in terms of bridal wear. There were plunging necklines, deep cut backs and cut out details on the blouses.

Flare It Up

Some of the outfits from this collection had an amazing flare. The extent of flare can be seen these dresses. The hemlines of these outfits were very wide.

The showstopper for the evening, Kangana Ranaut was wearing a bustier choli with a fit and flare lehenga. She draped a velvet duppatta over the lehenga choli for a rather regal look.
