The Burning Man Festival
The Burning Man Festival in Nevada is a eight day long event that ends on the American Labor Day in the month of September. The event takes place in Black Rock Desert in Nevada which is located 90 miles northeast of Reno. The festival takes place in an ancient lake bed known as the Playa. The event derives its name from the grand finale of the festival where a wooden man is torched.
There are very few people who understand or can truly explain the meaning of the festival. It is said to be an “annual experiment in a temporary community dedicated to radical self-expression and radical self-reliance". The one thing that everyone nods on is the fun that happens here annually. The temporary city comes to life during the course of the festival and after a few days form the culmination of the event, no trace can be found of the temporary city that existed. The golden rule here is “leave no trace".
The festival began in 1986, on a beach in San Francisco when a person by the name of Larry Harvey burnt an 8-foot wooden man with 20 of his friends, initiating an event which has gained immense fan following and has become an annual pilgrimage of the American calender. The festival in its own way is the most unique on the planet. From its small beginning it has had a participation of nearly 50000 people in the event last year. The festival is celebrated with the burning
