Cheers to Beer!
"Drink Life to the Lees"
This a famous line by tennyson in his poem Ulysses where he asks the readers to enjoy life till the end. But the metaphor here referred to is related to drinks. Here it means that a person should complete his drink till the end. One should enjoy the drink as he should enjoy the life that he lives. So we can come to the conclusion that, one drinks for the sake of fun and should choose the best of the drinks. Beer is said to be the best of the drinks and the most popular one in India and abroad.
Beer is the world's oldest and most popular alcoholic beverage, selling more than 35 billion gallons per year. It is a fermented, carbonated beverage made from malted barley, hops and water (which, when heated, is known as brewing liquor). There are around 70-80 distinct styles of beer, with some divisions. As almost any substance containing carbohydrates, namely sugar or starch, can naturally undergo fermentation, it is likely that beer-like beverages were independently invented among various cultures throughout the world.
Beer largely remained a homemaker's activity, made in the home in medieval times. By the 14th and 15th centuries, beer making was gradually changing from a family-oriented activity to an artisan one, with pubs and monasteries brewing their own beer for mass consumption. The basic ingredients of beer are water, a fermentable starch source, such as malted barley, and yeast. It is common for a flavoring to be added, the most popular being hops. A mixture of starch sources may be used, with the secondary starch source, such as corn, rice and sugar, often being termed an adjunct, especially when used as a lower cost substitute for malted barley.
The greatest diversity of flavors and types of beer can be found in Belgium, as is portrayed by its Belgian beer and lambic and other beer styles. American brewers also produce lots of different styles of beer, such as Brown Ale, Amber ale, Blonde Ale, Cream Ale and Red Ale. And some brewers use adjuncts such as chili or oats to make different styles such as oatmeal stout or chili beer. A good beer style will be true to form and match the requirements of color, ingredients and taste as outlined in the brewing guidelines.
Budweiser, popularly referred to as Bud or sometimes Bud Heavy to distinguish it from Bud Light, is the primary brand of beer made by Anheuser-Busch. Budweiser is a pale lager made with a proportion of rice as a substitute adjunct for barley malt, for which it has received some criticism, though the company takes the position that the rice gives the beer a lighter taste. It is referred to as the King of Beers and is worth the name.
