India's Butter Garlic Naan Ranks 7th In Taste Atlas' '100 Best Dishes In The World', List Of Top 10 Dishes!
Taste Atlas is an online food guide dedicated to cataloging traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants worldwide. Launched by Croatian journalist Matija Babić in 2018, Taste Atlas aims to map out and celebrate the rich diversity of global cuisine, offering an extensive database of regional foods and culinary traditions.

Good news for the Desi crowd, because this platform has once again showcased the global popularity of Indian cuisine. One of the primary reasons for the widespread popularity of Indian cuisine is its diversity in flavors and ingredients. Indian dishes often feature a complex interplay of spices, herbs, and seasonings, creating layers of taste that are both bold and harmonious.
In its latest list of the "100 Best Dishes in the World," Butter Garlic Naan has secured a spot in the top 10. Additionally, three other Indian dishes have been recognized for their exceptional taste. Let us know about these popular Indian items in detail.
1. Butter Garlic Naan
Ranked at an impressive number 7, Butter Garlic Naan is India's highest-placed dish on the list. This beloved Indian bread is made from all-purpose flour, which is kneaded into dough, rolled out, and cooked until it puffs up. The naan is then brushed with a mouthwatering mixture of melted butter and garlic, giving it a rich and aromatic flavor.
Butter Garlic Naan is a staple accompaniment to many Indian gravies, with Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken being popular pairings. Its soft texture and flavourful crust make it a favorite not just in India but around the world.
2. Murgh Makhani
Another dish ranked in the "100 Best Dishes in the World" is Murgh Makhani, which has been ranked 43rd. Popularly known as Butter Chicken, it is a beloved Indian dish that features succulent pieces of chicken cooked in a rich, creamy tomato-based sauce. This flavourful curry is prepared by marinating chicken in yogurt and spices and then grilling it to perfection. The cooked chicken is simmered in a luscious sauce made with butter, cream, tomatoes, and aromatic spices like garam masala, cumin, and coriander.
The result is a velvety, mildly spiced dish that pairs beautifully with naan or rice. Murgh Makhani's exquisite taste and comforting texture have made it a favorite both in India and around the world.
3. Tikka
Tikka has captured the hearts of food enthusiasts globally by securing the 47th spot on Taste Atlas's list. Tikka refers to pieces of meat or vegetables that are marinated in a mixture of yogurt and spices before being grilled or baked. The marinade typically includes ingredients such as garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, and turmeric, which infuse the meat with vibrant flavors.
Chicken Tikka, the most popular variant, is renowned for its juicy, tender pieces of chicken that are bursting with spice and aroma. It is often served with a side of mint chutney and is a staple in Indian cuisine enjoyed both as an appetizer and a main course.
4. Tandoori
Ranking just behind Tikka at number 48 is Tandoori, another iconic Indian dish. Tandoori dishes are named after the tandoor, a traditional clay oven used to cook marinated meat or chicken. The meat is typically marinated in a mixture of yogurt, lemon juice, and a blend of spices including garam masala, cayenne pepper, and turmeric. The high heat of the tandoor cooks the meat to perfection giving it a smoky flavor and slightly charred exterior while keeping the inside tender and juicy. Tandoori chicken with its vibrant red colour and spicy taste is often served as a starter complemented by tangy red chutney.
The global popularity of Indian cuisine can be attributed to a combination of its rich historical roots, diverse flavors, health benefits, and adaptability. The intricate use of spices and innovative cooking techniques create a sensory experience that is both unique and satisfying.
