A high-stakes cricket fixture between the Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, initially slated for Dharamshala on 11 May, will now be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The relocation comes in the wake of 'Operation Sindoor', a coordinated military strike by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Targeting terror bases across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the operation marked one of India's most significant cross-border military initiatives since the 1971 war. Strategic precision munitions were used to strike locations including Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya in Pakistan, and five others in PoJK. These strikes aimed to dismantle infrastructure used by terrorist groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
From Dharamshala To Ahmedabad : The Venue Shift
The decision to move the match from the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala was rooted in rising security concerns and the stadium's proximity to the volatile border region. The temporary closure of Dharamshala Airport only compounded logistical difficulties. Initially, officials considered the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, but ultimately selected Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium for its capacity, infrastructure, and central location. The match will continue at its original time of 3:30 PM IST on 11 May.
