Bollywood Actor Celina Jaitly Accuses Husband of Violence, Seeks ₹50 Crore in Damage
Bollywood actor and former Miss India Celina Jaitly has filed a complaint of domestic violence against her Austrian husband Peter Haag, seeking compensation of ₹50 crore, besides maintenance amount of ₹10 lakh every month along with custody or access to their three children.
Jaitly has filed a petition this week in a Mumbai court under the provisions of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, citing sustained emotional, physical, sexual, and verbal abuse throughout their marriage. She said that her husband systematically destroyed her financial independence, forbidding her from working after the birth of their children, and even forced her to transfer ownership of her Mumbai residence to him during a particularly vulnerable period following personal losses she suffered.
Beyond personal trauma, Jaitly argues that the abuse led to a severe disruption of her career and income-earning potential. The lawsuit describes Haag as "narcissistic" and "self-absorbed," with "short temper and alcoholic tendencies," which she says triggered repeated abuse and humiliation. According to the documents, she was forced to flee their home in Austria and return to India, while Haag has filed for divorce in Austria.
The court, after the first hearing in this connection, issued a notice to Haag and fixed December 12, 2025, as the next date of hearing.
Why This Case Resonates
To
many

this
is
not

a
grim
reminder
that
domestic
abuse
does
not
discriminate:
behind
closed

it

regardless

Jaitly's

underlines
a
growing

among
women
in

Celebs Who Spoke Up
While Jaitly's case has drawn mass media attention, she is not alone. Here are a couple of other instances where women have initiated legal proceedings against husbands or family for domestic abuse:
Nisha Rawal
Nisha, known for her work on television, filed an FIR against her then-husband, Karan Mehra, in 2021, accusing him of domestic violence after an alleged incident where he pushed her against a wall, causing injury.
The dispute between them finally caused a public fallout, and the news of their separation was covered everywhere.
Nisha

This
case
depicts
how
film

also
television

years
to

justice
and

Shweta Tiwari
Shweta has accused her ex-husband Raja Chaudhary of physical and domestic abuse during the course of their marriage.
Even in her second marriage with actor Abhinav Kohli, too, she complained of mental torture and abuse - making her one of the most vocal celebrity victims who spoke openly.
Across
her

Shweta's

These

What's Next
As the court proceeds with the case of Jaitly and as similar complaints emerge in diverse backgrounds, the hope is that such public disclosures and subsequent legal action will carry a strong message: abuse and control should not be tolerated, and victims must be empowered to seek justice.
For now, all eyes are on the hearing of December 12 and on whether this high-stakes lawsuit becomes a turning point, not just for Celina Jaitly but for the broader conversation around marital abuse, dignity, and women's rights.
