Ramayan is one of the oldest and longest epics in the whole world that was composed by a great sage Valmiki around 8th BCE. This one, which is one of the most celebrated scriptures, consists of 500 chapters and 24000 verses which are spread across different parts.
Lord Rama is believed to be the 7th incarnation of lord Vishnu, who was born as the son of Kaushalya and Raja Dashratha in Ayodhya. Rama is the main protagonist in the film and it is around whom the story revolves in this legendary saga. This played a key role in forming the basis of religious beliefs and Hindu ideologies.

In the book, incidents point out that despite being a king, the life of Lord Rama is full of hardships, pain, sufferings and struggles and he was not alone in this journey as it was shared by his wife Sita, brother Lakshman during the fourteen-year exile and also post that phase. The part between Lord Rama's exile and return to Ayodhya constitutes the core of this legendary epic.

However, when it came to facing the biggest predicaments of his life, lord Rama showed extraordinary patience, extraordinary courage, patience, generosity, virtue as well as ethical decisiveness. We have curated 5 important life lessons from Ramayana that are valuable, will add meaning to your life and make it enriching even in today's context.

1. Unconditional Love Can Conquer Everything
Ramayana tells us that through unconditional love and devotion, one can conquer everything. It is only due to unparalleled love for his wife Sita, Lord Rama fought a fierce battle and slayed the evil king Ravana in an effort to rescue her. Also, Sita's unyielding love and devotion for lord Rama gave her immense strength when she was held captive by the Lankan King. It is simply pure and selfless love and it is the secret of immense power and strength in crisis.

2. Responsibilities And Moral Duties
In Ramayana, Dharma has been given utmost importance in one's life. Lord Rama is shown as someone who had always lived as a truly righteous person. Even in the dark phase of his life, he didn't shy away from his responsibilities, and with sincerity, without faltering he proved himself to be the ideal son, husband and king.

3. Arrogance And Ego Lead To Downfall
Ravan was a wealthy ruler and an ardent devotee of lord Shiva. Due to this, he believed that he is above all and invincible. However, he was unaware that his arrogance, ego, stubbornness and evil intentions became the reason for his destruction in the end. The lesson it teaches us is that no matter what you are or who you are, one needs to stay grounded and not deceive others.

4. Victory Of Good Over Evil
This is one of the most well-known and celebrated lessons in Ramayana and no matter how strong and powerful evil is, eventually, it will be defeated by good. You can take a cue from Rama's slaying of Ravana which is celebrated in the form of Dussehra across the globe.

5. Stay Humble
This is one of the important lessons that Ramayana teaches us to treat everyone equally and with respect. Lord Hanuman is so strong and powerful that he could have rescued Sita easily from Ravana's Ashoka Vatika. Even though he had the power to
take down Ravan's army single-handedly, he chose to surrender to Lord Rama's divinity and trusted his decision.

6. Treat Everyone Equally
Lord Rama treated everyone equally and this is the reason he was loved and respected by all. There is an incident mentioned in the epic when Sabria (the sage's daughter offered him the already-tasted berry fruits he accepted them instantly and ate them without any thought. This has inspired many to be humble and kind. Therefore, discriminating against someone on the basis of status, caste, gender or age is a sin and all humans deserve equal treatment.

7. Abstain From Negative People
We all seek positivity in life and therefore, we need to look at people who inspire us and do not drain our energy. The third wife of Dashratha, Queen Kaikeyi used to love Rama more than her own son Bharat. So, her handmaiden Manthara poisoned her mind and filled it with negativity. Further, she convinced Kaikeyi to send Rama into exile and insisted Bharat be crowned as the king. This speaks volumes about why one should guard themselves against negative people.

8. Forgiveness Triumphs Over Revenge
Holding grudges can be toxic and it can create a negative environment. When Ravana learned that Laxman has insulted his sister Surpanakha, he went to seek revenge and abducted Sita and this cost him his life in the end. Lord Rama and his wife Sita were humble and kind to everyone, therefore, they forgave Kaikeyi, who was responsible for sending Lord Rama into exile. This shows forgiveness is the key to happiness and it allows us to move on life.

9. All That Glitters Is Not Gold
This means you need to understand the true character or intention of a person even if they are on their best behaviour. In Ramayana, Sita gets attracted to a spotted deer which looked incredibly beautiful and she wanted Ram to bring that animal to her from the jungle. But, it wasn't a deer, but Mareech, Ravana's accomplice in disguise the animal.

10. Unity Can Overcome Any Difficulty In Life
In Ramayana, King Dasaratha had three wives and four sons and each of them loved each other very much. When life had put them through certain difficult situations, and tough times, they stayed united and overcame the troubles, even though they were apart physically. Therefore, unity is like an anchor and it will sail a ship no matter how dark is the situation.
