After Weeks Of Scorching Heat, Delhi Gets A Cool Twist! A Sign Of Pre-Monsoon Arrival?
After what felt like an endless stretch of scorching days with temperatures soaring above 40°C, Delhi residents finally got a break. On the morning of 29 April, the city woke up to overcast skies and cooler breezes - a small but much-needed relief. The shift in weather has not only been welcome but has brought with it some promising forecasts for the days ahead.
Thunderstorms, Cooler Winds, And Lower Temperatures Ahead
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi can expect partly cloudy skies in the coming days, with thunder and lightning likely. Temperatures are set to range between a low of 25°C and a high of 39°C. While that's still warm, it's a noticeable dip from the earlier, oppressive highs.
Looking ahead to 1 and 2 May, the IMD warns of rain and thunderstorms that could bring temperatures down further - potentially to around 37°C. Strong surface winds are also expected, which should help reduce the stifling heat even more.
Pre-Monsoon Activity On The Rise
Weather experts at Skymet Weather are predicting a surge in pre-monsoon activity in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) between 1 and 6 May. Several factors are behind this shift - including the east-west trough, a change in wind direction, higher humidity, and thicker cloud cover. This combination is likely to trigger light rainfall, thunderstorms, dust storms, and gusty winds.
The first couple of days of May will likely see milder effects, but things are expected to intensify from 4 to 6 May. While this may cause minor disruptions, many are welcoming it as a reprieve from the oppressive heat.
It's Not Just Delhi : Weather Shifts Across India
This change isn't limited to the capital. The North-Eastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Manipur are expected to see light to moderate rainfall, with some areas at risk of heavy showers. Similar conditions are forecast for parts of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, where thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also on the cards.
Southern states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu may also experience thunderstorms and rainfall, with pre-monsoon conditions setting in. Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh could see light to moderate rain in the days ahead.
A Shift In Seasons And A Sense Of Relief
After the punishing heat of April, the signs of cooler weather on the horizon have brought a collective sigh of relief across the country. With both the IMD and Skymet predicting a shift in patterns, people can now prepare for milder days and refreshing showers.
