Lady Gaga, The New Subject In Sociology

The sociology course on Lady Gaga, in the university of South Carolina, will teach students to 'engage in sound and substantiated scholarly thinking' keeping Lady Gaga as an example. The course subject will be dedicated to the life, work and success of Lady Gaga.
Professor Mathieu Deflem said, “We"re going to look at children, gossip, lady gaga as a social event. So it"s not the person, and it"s not the music. It"s more this thing out there in society that has 10 million followers on Facebook and six million on Twitter. I mean, that"s a social phenomenon."
Prof Deflem initially planned to name the course as Sociology of Fame or The Sociology of Celebrity. Later he renamed it as Lady Gaga and The Sociology of Fame. He hopes many students will be interested in the course.
“They don"t have to be hardcore fans. The better fan will not necessarily be the better student. But you have to have some interest in the topic. So if you really don"t like her, you probably shouldn't take the course," said Prof. Deflem.
