Flower Show, A Big Hit In Chennai
Organizers claimed that a show like this enhances tourism in the city and spreads awareness about different types of flowers.
The
main
highlights
of
the
flower
show
were
floral
replicas
of
Taj
Mahal,
Eiffel
Tower,
India
Gate
and
the
pyramids
of
Giza.
They
were
all
made
of
different
types
of
flowers.
As
Chennai
is
emerging
as
an
international
tourist
destination,
the
main
aim
of
show
was
to
attract
tourists
from
across
the
world.
“I have never seen such a colourful display of flowers anywhere. I have been to many places, but haven't seen such a massive display of flowers," says a visitor.
Over 350 varieties of flowers, including imported blossoms were on display at the show. The show featured both indigenous and imported varieties of flowers such as roses, carnations, tulips, lilies and many more.
India is a small player in the 40 billion dollars global cut-flower industry, which is currently dominated by Holland, France, Italy, South Africa and Thailand. This show is seen as a platform for both horticulturists and prospective customers and gives India a chance to catch up with the international flower industry.
