When the 2009 Oscar awards are out, India has due credit to rejoice. “Slumdog Millionaire" a film based on Indian life has won 8 Oscar awards and become the fourth film along with Gandhi to get the highest number of Oscar awards.

The film, which tracks the journey of an 18-year-old boy from rags-to-riches, was nominated for 10 categories. The film has bagged awards for Best Film award, Best Director goes to Danny Boyle, Original score for A R Rahman, Original song for 'Jai Ho', Film Editing for Chris Dickens, Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy, Cinematography for Anthony Dod Mantle, and Best Sound Mixing for Ressul Pookutty.

The best actor and actress of the year are Kate Winslet and Sean Penn for their roles in 'The Reader' and 'Milk' respectively.
