'McDowell Signature Indian Derby'. Has the name already made you think? Not to worry for there is a lot for you to know here. Held on April 11 and 12 in Mumbai, McDowell Signature Indian Derby truly transformed the Mahalaxmi Race Course into the playground of the Bold and Beautiful. Yes people, you hear it right – The Bold and The Beautiful. Surprised? Well, what else could you expect when I talk about the Indian Derby, with a name like McDowell, a UB Group company, behind the whole show? And icing on the cake is when you have your very own charismatic man gracing the occasion, the show even gets better.

Yes, we are talking about none other than 'the man', Dr. Mallya. He, obviously, couldn't keep himself away when the whole of the city rejoiced in his beat. The man, known for his vivid way of living, introduced one of the huge hits among Derby aficionados – an Apple based summer Signature cocktail, 'Saddle Up', named after his legendary horse, that proved to be an instant hit among the people that had gathered for the show.

Dramatic entries, airy hugs, dainty hats with ladies flaunting their latest, the most sensual and contemporary designer dresses, came along with the show; it's all part of the show after all. The show also witnessed people like Rocky S, Sarah Jane, Simran Kaur, Sophie Choudhary and the who's who of the fashion and glamor industry, while Ashok Capoor, Deputy President, United Spirits Limited and Debashish Shyam, Business Head, United Spirits Limited proved to be the perfect hosts at the glam filled McDowell Signature Indian Derby 2009.

Apart from the races, salsa teacher, Kaytee Nimghal and Sophie Choudhary, worked their magic on the audiences with their interactive salsa workshop. While the spirits soared with these miladies, the flea market and performances by international artistes also set the pulse racing for the 34,000 strong crowd at the McDowell Signature Indian Derby 2009. Excitement was aplenty at the paddock as International Ariel ballet dancers and Tribute singers for the Beatles, Rolling Stone & Cliff Richard held the audience spell-bound.

Lucky patrons drove away a gleaming new Mercedes car and two Logans as a part of the Derby sweepstakes which heightened the excitement for the race goers for this premier weekend.

So far as the prizes are concern, well, the record prize purse of Rs 1.75 crores – as never before – will, for sure, leave people talking about this Derby till McDowell Signature Indian Derby till it returns back next year, some time in the same season of the year.
