'Unblock Bangalore' programme in full swing
If it works well, the hours long and miles stretching traffic blocks will be an old story in Bangalore, provided the citizens take it in the right way. A joint initiative of Bangalore traffic police and Times of India, the campaign aims at promoting awareness among people who take their vehicles into the city traffic.
Volunteers include businessman, students etc... They hold placards which says thoughts like "I wont use mobile phone while driving", "I wont jump the signal point", "I wont over speed", "I won't drink and drive" etc... The volunteers also distribute pledge forms and traffic safety messages. Several volunteers joined the Bangalore Traffic Police to bring in a sense of discipline among commuters on Tuesday morning, as part of the Unlock Bangalore initiative.
The programme started with senior traffic officers, headed by additional commissioner of police Praveen Sood signing the first pledge form stating that he would not violate traffic rules. The volunteers, spread out over six vital junctions Kamaraj Road, K R Circle, Hudson Circle, DSouza Circle, GPO Circle and spread the message of obeying traffic rules. They also asked people to sign a pledge form.
Earlier, while inaugurating the campaign, Praveen Sood said that "the citizens should voluntarily comply with rules as the police will facilitate only the enforcement and education part. We have our own limitations and it's difficult to achieve 100% results without the cooperation of citizens. If not, any amount of enforcement will not work".
Whatever
the
pledges
and
resolutions
be,
when
it
comes
riding
or
driving
on
roads
people
ignore
all
traffic
rules
and
try
to
break
the
law
wherever
it
is
possible
to
reach
the
destination
just
few
minuets
faster
or
to
avoid
waiting
at
a
closed
signal.
Awareness
campaigns
will
initiate
people
to
remember
our
fellow
beings
and
also
will
sprout
out
few
feelings
of
humanity.
Let's
hope
that
the
'Unblock
Bangalore'
campaign
will
work
some
sort
of
miracles
and
urge
people
to
respect
traffic
rules
and
avoid
traffic
blocks
on
roads.
