NASA sends your name to the moon!

NASA is inviting people to submit their names, to be transported to the Moon onboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). All you have to do is enter your details. Once you've submitted your name, you get a printable certificate of participation and they'll be put into a database. The database will be placed on a microchip that will be integrated onto the spacecraft and travel along with it.

You can log onto a special NASA Web site that is collecting names. The deadline for lunar explorers is 27 June. The LRO mission is the first step in NASA's plans to return humans to the moon by 2020. LRO is the latest project of the NASA and its objectives are "finding safe landing sites, locate potential resources, characterize the radiation environment, and demonstrate new technology'.

The LRO orbiter, comprised of six instruments including LEND, LROC, LOLA, which will help the orbiter in its mission. The mission will also create a comprehensive atlas of the moon"s features and resources that will be needed as NASA designs and builds a planned lunar outpost. LRO is scheduled for launch in late 2008.

So, hurry up. Submit your name and have your name traveling into orbit!
