Now no longer do you have to burn your feet during walks on the sandy beaches. The world's first refrigerated beach has been launched in Dubai to protect the delicate feet of rich and wealthy.

The avant-garde coastline, which will be making waves while neighbouring the posh new Palazzo Versace hotel in the most populous city of the United Arab Emirates, is due to open in late 2009 or early 2010. The scorching sand is to be computer-controlled by link to the system of coolant-filled pipes that maintain ease temperatures.

The visitors no longer have to face the 50-degree heat and can take a dip in the cool swimming pool or enjoy the cool breeze generated by huge blowers.

This adventurous gimmick has lead to campaigns that accuse the technology to lead to climate change related troubles. "Dubai is like a bubble world where the things that are worrying the rest of the world, like climate change, are simply ignored so people can continue destructive lifestyles," the Sun quoted Rachel Noble, of Tourism Concern, as saying.

But according to Soheil Abedian, president of the company that owns the Palazzo Versace, said: "This is the kind of luxury top people want"
