German photographical glimpses

Kolkata, Apr 19 (UNI) It is not the industry alone that brings Germany to the city, but the heritage buildings too attract Hamburg towards it.

The Goethe institute has taken up a unique photography project that will cement cultural ties between the two countries.

Speaking to UNI,Max Muller Bhavan Goethe Institue(German Cultural Centre) Programme Officer S V Raman today said, ''A group of students from the School of Arts in Bremen, Germany will be visiting Kolkata to shoot photography documentation on heritage buildings in North Kolkata.'' These students study photography under the guidance of Prof Peter Bialobrzeski, whose works were exhibited in Kolkata in December 2005, in an exhibition jointly organised by Max Mueller Bhavan and Seagull Foundation for the Arts.

His students have different backgrounds, some of them studying Art, others Design or Media as their main subject, which generates a large spectrum of different approaches, comprising of fashion photography as well as artistic-conceptional and social-documentary photography.

The project would be executed in collaboration with an NGO Action Research in Conservation of Heritage and Mr Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute(SRFTI) with support from the German Academic Exchange Service.

The project work would be evaluated at University of the Arts Bremen.
