'Fatemid' architecture unveiled
Hyderabad, Mar 30, (UNI) The Pearl city, a seat of Islamic culture and traditions, also rich in architectural heritage of the Nizam Era added one more feather in its cap with the inauguration of a masjid design showcasing 'Fatemid Architecture'.
The entrance door that is located at the circular intersection is inspired from Bab Ul Futuh, the victory gate built by the Imams as a mark of triumph in war. It signifies the victory of believers in their Fatemi Faith.
The interior was intricately decorated with gypsum ceilings based on Indian style of architecture. The Marble Qibla made from finest Makrana white marble is derived from the Qibla styles from Yemen, reflecting the rich past and heritage that the community traces its history from.
The fine glass etchings, the wood work, the calligraphy with gold leafing, the dazzling crystal chandeliers all add to the beauty of the masjid, paying silent tribute to Aqa Moula (TUS) to whom it is attributed to.
External elevation boasts of design elements and architectural styles of the Fatemids, inspired from the sources of architectural vocabulary as Al Jame Al Anwar, Al Jame Azhar and Al Jame Aqmar masjids built by the Fatemid Imams in Cairo Egypt.
The Masjid itself is 2000 Sq Ft in area. It has 3 floors. It comprises the main masjid and sahen or courtyard. The first floor was exclusively for ladies. The third floor is the community hall.
Its architectural features were typical of a Dawoodi Bohra masjid of this era, with its signature single dome and minaret The interiors were embellished with the hundred names of Allah written in gold reminding the worshipper, not just about the presence of Allah but the importance of the written word which has given so much impetus to calligraphy in Islamic arts.
The newly constructed masjid at Red Hill was inaugurated by Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) renowned humanitarian, philanthropist and spiritual leader of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohra community.
