Chennai, Dec 20 (UNI) NIIT, a leading IT trainer, today announced the introduction of an 'Integrated ANIIT for Engineers,' a five-semester curriculum for engineering students to address the growing demand of 'first day job-ready' engineers for the IT Industry.

The entire programme, comprising 550 hours of education, is priced at Rs 56,500.

The programme is initially launched in southern cities of Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad as South India produces 54 per cent of engineers in the country.

Announcing the launch at a press conference here, NIIT Learning Business President G Raghavan said the dual-qualification programme, to be pursued alongside engineering studies, would enable even students of non-IT engineering streams to get an opportunity to enter the IT industry.

As per Industry estimates, nearly two-thirds of three lakh engineers passing out of colleges in India every year needed re-skilling to be readied for demanding IT jobs, he said.

Mr Raghavan said the new curriculum would comprehensively address four critical areas for engineering students to make them job-ready -- ne technology skilling, curriculum support, global certification and placement assistance.

NIIT Brand Ambassador and Grand Master Viswanathan Anand, who was also present, stressed that one needed to constantly upgrade their skills both in chess as well as in the IT Industry.

He expressed the hope that the new programme would enable students to have an edge over others when they complete their studies.

Executives from top IT firms like TCS, Satyam and Polaris highlighted the shortage of skilled manpower in the industry and the massive investment involved in training new recruits.
