Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with fervour
Chandigarh, Oct 24 (UNI) Religious fervour and gaiety marked the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Union Territory today, marking the end of Ramzan, the holy month of fasting and prayers.
Muslims, dressed in their colourful best, thronged mosques and idgahs to offer ''namaz'', greeted each other and exchanged sweets.
They were also greeted by members of other communities.
In Punjab, muslims thronged various mosques to celebrate the occasion. A large number of them congregated at a mosque at Malerkotla in Sangrur district and offered prayers. Reports of Id celebrations also poured in from Nawanshahr, Bhanga, Mahilpur and Ludhiana.
Similar celebrations were held in Haryana where the Muslims offered prayers in mosques at different places.
Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Raghubir Singh Kadian and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda called on Governor Dr A R Kidwai here and extended their warm greetings to him on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
In Chandigarh, hundreds of muslims offered special Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Jama Masjid in Sctor 20. Similar prayers were offered at Burail village and Mani Majra in the union territory.
Traditional
fervour

enthusiasm
marked
the
occasion
in
Himachal
Pradesh.
In
Shimla,
a
large
number
of
Kashmiri
labourers
offered
''namaz''
at
Jama
Masjid.
