California-based Wind River Systems
The California-based Wind River Systems, the leader in Device Software Optimisation (DSO), today announced that Boeing has selected the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition, for its P-8A Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA) mission system.
Boeing considered several commercial Linux solutions for its advanced mission system, before selecting Wind River's open-source solution based on a commercial-grade quality Carrier Grade Linux distribution, the company said in a release here.
Wind River's build methodology enabled customers to customise and add differentiating value to their Linux build without losing sight of the clear path back to this pristine source. Boeing could, therefore, confidently build unique, competitive products, while maintaining its citizenship in the open-source community, the company said.
''Wind River is emerging as the go-to vendor for commercial Linux in the intensely-competitive and standards-driven aerospace and defence industry. The P-8A programme will now have a commercial-grade quality Carrier Grade Linux distribution, delivered and supported by Wind River. Our solution will also provide the programme with the industry-leading open, extensible Wind River Workbench development suite, integrated and validated run-time technologies, as well as the most proven and reliable partner in this application space,'' Wind River India Country Manager Venkatesh Kumaran said.
