Arts Auction House To Showcase Art

New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Arts auction house Triveda will hold their first auction of modern and contemporary Indian paintings here on October 25.

The sale represents a collection of oils and gouache works including 'A Santhal Woman and Young Boy' by Jamini Roy, 'Abandoned' by Jogesh Seal and 'A Woman with a Water Jar' by Hemendranath Mazumdar, Triveda Chairperson Nina Pillai said in a release.

The collection spans the works of artists from the 1900s to the present day.

One of the significant highlights of the auction is a large untitled work by Jagdish Swaminathan from his mountain bird series dating from the early 1960s. Also on auction are abstract works along with a good group of related books by the artists.

Another is the panoramic Himalaya View by India's acclaimed National Art Treasure Artist, Nicholai Konstantinovich Roerich, painted in the 1930s.

From the Progressive Artists Group are works of M F Husain, S H Raza, F N Souza among others, all from the 1970s and 1980s.

Art lovers Nina Pillai, Hariram Sastri and Janaki Ram set up Triveda.

The works will be on view from October 24 to 25 in The Grand Ballroom, The Grand hotel in Vasant Kunj.
