Tips To Reduce Golden Retriever Hair Shedding

Golden retriever hair shedding
Golden retrievers are warm and affectionate dogs but the dog sheds hair profusely which can be troublesome. Golden retrievers are a double coated dog breed i.e, during the winter months they develop an undercoat which is designed to protect them and when the weather turns warm again, these dogs shed their thick undercoat. Some people try to shave the coat so as to control the Golden retriever"s shedding hair but this is not a good idea as their coat protects them during the winter.

Here are tips for Golden retrievers hair care:

  • Brushing the golden retriever hair 3 days in a week for 5 minutes will take out the dead hair and prevent unwanted hair fall. Comb the thick undercoat weekly with an undercoat rake and for normal brushing prefer bristle brush. Frequent brushing can reduce golden retriever's hair shedding.
  • Regular bathing with a mild shampoo followed by combing will also reduce golden retriever hair shedding. Even shampoos having omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids are recommended as they are healthy for the dog's skin and prevents hair fall.
  • Never shave the golden retriever's hair. It is best to trim the hair and make it short rather than shaving off the undercoat of the pet.
  • Add one drop of olive oil in the dog food to reduce golden retriever hair shedding.
  • If the dog is not scared of vacuum cleaner, try vacuuming the hair as many dogs love it. Attach a soft brush before vacuuming.
  • Lack of nutrition in the dog diet can also be a reason behind golden retriever hair shedding. Apart from giving high quality dog food, also prefer giving fish oil, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids to prevent dog shedding and also ensure hair care whilst keeping them healthy.
