Prepare Your Dog For The Baby's Arrival - Part I ...Contd

By Super

Dogs love to sleep in quiet and safe places. However when the baby starts crawling it may be hard for them to get any sleep. Therefore train the dog to go and sleep on the mat or in the corner of the room. Let the place be closer to you as it will help it to feel safe and happy. An indoor kennel can also be introduced.

If your dog has access to all rooms in the house, get him used to not entering which ever room will serve as the nursery for your baby. Keep the room closed so the dog will get the message that it is not a part of its territory. Try to close the nursery door on its face while you are assembling baby furniture or decorating the room. This way, the dog will learn that even though there is constant activity in the room he is not a part of it. However make sure to pay a little extra attention to your dog once you leave the nursery and return to his territory.
