Water is the most essential element for all. It is a basic necessity. Since old times, water has been stored in containers for different use. These days, plastic bottle containers are generally used for storage of water and easy carrying. Using new plastic bottles every time is not feasible. It is costly as well as the disposal of the used bottles becomes a problem to the environment.

Hence, reusable bottles are often used. Drinking from a re-usable water bottle is a great way to save the environment and save money. However, after some days, these bottles start to mold or tend to develop an odour and funk to it. It becomes difficult to get rid of them. Just plain dishwashers may simply not be enough sometimes.

Steps To Clean Water Bottle

To clean a water bottle thoroughly, a few other recommended steps are enlisted below:

Step 1 - Fill the plastic bottle with hot water and add a few drops of dishwasher. Shake the bottle well. This is necessary to kill all the bacteria and pathogens in the bottle. It is also beneficial to remove any dirt stuck on the bottle. Keep the water in the bottle for 20-25 minutes. If the dirt still remains, repeat the same procedure and keep the water overnight.

Step 2 - Pour uncooked rice and baking soda in the dry plastic bottle. A little amount of salt can also be added. Keep them there for 30-45 minutes. The rice absorbs the odour in the bottle. The baking soda acts as a disinfectant. All in all, the bottle gets rid of the unwanted smell and bacteria. Repeat the process if necessary.

Step 3 - Fill the bottle with vinegar and keep it overnight. In the morning wash with soap and water. The bottle will have a slight vinegar odour for the first few minutes, but that will quickly dissipate and the water bottle should smell fresh and clean. This helps in removing the unnecessary smell and the dirt and makes the bottle new and fresh again.

Step 4 - Crumple up newspaper inside, put the lid on overnight. Smell should be gone in the morning. This works for water bottles, containers, jars, etc. It is one of the easiest methods available.

Step 5 - Use of oxygen or chlorine based bleach detergents can be used to wash bottles. This option can be used for smell and dirt that doesn't go easily. They have instant and efficient results.
