Weeds are any plant that has very high growth rate and exhibits competition to crops, for space, light, water or nutrients. Controlling weeds are important to get a maximum yield out of your hard work and time.

There are many weed control measures that are commonly used. Most of these include steps taken for controlling the growth and spread of the weeds. Here are some tips that will help you get rid of those annoying weeds from your garden.

Pull them out: If you are considering cultivation in a smaller area,the best way to control the growth of weeds is to pull them out.
Pulling the weeds out will help to remove it from the root itself. This will ensure complete removal of weeds.

Ploughing: Ploughing is a common and useful method to remove weeds from destroying your crops. Ploughing is done by removing the weeds in a particular time interval. It is important to know the features of the weed to determine the timings for proper measures to control the weeds.

Tilling: Tilling is an effective way to control or prevent weeds. If tilling is performed in the correct way, weed control is easy to establish. Tilling can bury most of the weed seeds deep into the soil which will prevent them from growing out. This is an excellent way to control garden weeds particularly if there are numerous numbers of seeds left on the soil surface in the previous year.

Biological control: If you are looking for a chemical free method to control weeds from your garden or farm, biological control is the best option. You can use insects or geese for controlling weeds. But, this is usually not practical in small areas because biological control will give an effective result only in a large area of cultivation. Moreover, biological weed control is a long term method.

Organic herbicides: Many organic herbicides are available in the market which can successfully control weeds in the garden. Organic soap and plant oil blends are common among organic herbicides to prevent garden weeds. Concentrated vinegar is also an effective organic herbicide which can effectively control weeds. Organic herbicides are safe to the user as it has minimum toxic effects. The only disadvantage is that it is not selective.

Regular check: It is very important to closely monitor the soil and cultivation to control and prevent the growth of weeds. You have to remove any growth at the earliest to prevent the spreading of weeds. The growth of a single weed is indirectly an indicator of the presence of weeds in the soil which can grow shortly.
