Growing, Maintaining And Pruning Hydrangeas

Hydrangea Macrophylla are lilac coloured clusters that give a mass, look and border to your garden. There is hardly any competition for the blue florals as the pinks, yellows, whites and reds are found in lots. Here are a few tips to have a hydrangea garden.
Growing Hydrangeas
1. The marve coloured fengshui florals (lucky plants) require good amount of sun and partial shade. They ask for morning sun and afternoon shade so growing them in the area facing east will be appropriate. They can be fence plants or even corner shrubs.
2. They require lots of water so growing them around a pool or a fountain will help you water plants easily as well as match with the blue tiles of the pool.
3. Soil Condition: A good pH balanced soil, with ¼ cup of natural fertilizer for every shrub will be ideal. Homemade mulch is also good for the plant.
4. Planting: Early fall is the best time to plant hydrangeas.
Maintaining Hydrangeas
1. Sometimes a powdery mildew is seen on the leaves which can be killed using a good fungicide.
2. If the hydrangea is potted in a bright sunny place, it can be transferred to a shady place in the afternoons until the sun sets.
Pruning Hydrangeas
Pruning can be in the Spring, the dry and damaged blooms can be plucked and the new cuttings can be planted for fresh growth. Never cut the new blooms. You can also prune during summer.
