A water body in the precincts of your palatial house adds beauty, charm and serenity to the over all decor of your home. Pond plants have its own charm in contributing to the beauty of your home. Pond plants helps in reducing the algae growth and in adding oxygen to the garden pond. There are about six different kinds of aqua plants that aid to beautify your pond.

Types Of Aquatic Pond Plants

Water Lillies
Water lillies are generally strong aquatic plants that root firmly in the soil of natural ponds. They need deeper water to thrive. The colours, hardiness and long blooming season are the properties that make them popular among pond plants. They bloom in summer and can remain in winter unless the water freezes to the level of the plant. They can thrive in winter upto 30 degrees. Some water lillies flower at night while others are strongly scented embalming the environment.

Oxygenators
As the name suggest, these plants add oxygen to the pond. They keep the pond clean and clear by absorbing the nutrients. They are usually submerged plants that are rooted strongly in the soil or float without roots under water.

Water Crowfoot, and Water Violet. Monkey tail, Hortwort, Parrots feather are some examples of water garden plants that act as oxygenators

Those that float under the water without roots keep the lilly oxygenated.

Floating Plants
Floating plants move about in wind or with the water current and are usually of medium to small in size. They require no roots and keep the water clear and clean by absorbing the nutrients from the water. They also do a good job in oxygenating. However their growth should be checked as they tend to grow faster and can be termed as waterweeds.

Duck Weed, Water Lettuce, Water Chestnut and the water Hyacinth are some of the examples of floating plants.

Partly Emerging
As the name goes, the plant reveals only a part of its growth with flowers while the rest remains submerged in water. They normally include reeds and grow well at the edge of the pond. Other plants grow low on the ground covering it with variegated foliage and flowers.

Marginal Plants
Marginal plants as the name implies grow in the shallower areas around the pond. They love the areas that are normally very marshy.

The Marsh Marigold, Reed Mace, Pickerel, Water Buttons, Bog Primula are typical examples of marginal water plants.

Bog Plants
Bog plants generally grow in a low-lying spot in the garden where rainwater tends to collect. Wet mud is what is required for these plants to thrive.

These are colourful pond plants that include Harlequin, Clematis Rises, Lobelias, and Candelabra Primulas. Others are the Day Lily, Goatsbeard, Water Avens, Iris, Yellow Starflowers, Lobelia Cardenalis and Scarlet flowers.
