Types Of Decorative Flower Vases

Flower Vase
Flowers can make your home look beautiful. But the right flower vase can make the flowers look gorgeous. The secret to an attractive bouquet is the decorative vase.

There are different types of vases, made of different materials and of different shapes and sizes. One container cannot be used for all flowers. The size, shape and material of the flower vase have to be considered beforehand.

To select the right container, first choose the flowers you want to place in it. If you have few blooms, go for a small flower holder. If it is a bunch of flowers, then a big urn is more suitable.

Next, take into account the stem of the flowers. A tall, cylindrical flower vase will support long, rigid stemmed flowers like sunflowers. The height of the container and its narrow shape can give a more controlled look to the bulky flower bunch.

1. For short stemmed blossoms, use small, round pottery vases. Ideally, the height of the vase must be half the height of the flower. Round flower-holder is also ideal for full blossoms as it accentuates their shapes and gives them more space to spread out. Round holders also provide for dome-like arrangement of flowers.

2. If you have a single flower or a couple of thin stemmed blossoms, then go for a curvy bud vase. This arrangement is ideal for a minimalist look. It also makes a beautiful centrepiece for your dining table. On the other hand, if you have a bigger arrangement with a variety of flowers, select a wide container with a heavy base. This will support the arrangement and hold it steady.

3. A square flower vase can add a modern, fashionable touch to your home. Place huge, full blossoms in square pots. The angles of the square will beautifully contradict with the smooth curves of the bloom.

4. Depending on your home decor, you could select flower vases made of different materials. You can go for glass, porcelain, plastic or even baskets. While glass containers look good, they are expensive. Plastic and wooden types of vases are more durable but may look distasteful.

5. If the blooms are healthy with strong stems, a glass vase can be used to display them. The stems should be properly arranged to fill the entire space within. Clear glass pots highlight the flowers and do not distract your attention. However, weak, thin and uneven stems can be hidden in baskets or porcelain containers.

6. While selecting the right vase, also take into account the spot where you will be placing it. If you will be placing it in the balcony or in the corner of the room, go for taller, bigger vase. To place flowers on table, choose smaller, wider pots.

Lastly, never place blooms in flamboyant vases. This will take the attention off the flowers. Also, make sure your bouquet is neither top nor bottom heavy. Go back a few steps and look at the arrangement to make sure it is well balanced.
