Decorate your Living Room- Part II
Hit on the right orientation for Furniture
In this series, we will ascertain how to place furniture in a desired manner. If you are encountered with a large living room, divide the room in two or three separate sitting areas. This provides cozy sitting areas. A good rule of thumb is to comfortably seat six in a room.
It is also important to choose the right orientation for your furniture. You can face your furniture to architectural points like windows, fireplaces or entertainment centers. This gives purpose to arrangements. Activity areas should be reflected and distinguishable in each area of your room. If you are living in a small room you need sofa, armchair and a few end tables. Larger spaces may include coffee tables, number of chairs and a larger sofa.
There is no need to go on a furniture-shopping spree, when you need to decorate. If you have a functional sofa, you can use different styles of slip-covers available and decorate it. Team it with throw pillows and you have a brand new sofa. In case, your furniture is in neutral colours, add lots of vibrant and decorative pillows. This gives a warm and cozy feeling in the winters.
Use area rugs to define seating areas. They not only add splash of colour to the decor but also will tie things up. Rugs are also useful for covering up unattractive carpeting or floors. A tall silk tree is a wonderful idea. Place it next to entrance or in the foyer or next to television set. This sure adds to the aesthetic sense of the room. If you are green-friendly, you can opt for plants, which lightens things up and gives a live-in feeling.
A small fishpond and a fountain are also charming additions to living room decor. You can place a decorative room divider to divide TV room and living room. Japanese paper screens or Soji screens serve the purpose. They not only give privacy but also permit diffused light inside. Flower arrangement in a basket or tall-vase is a must to any room.
Lighting can make or break, as in spoil the room. The use of different lighting will change the way you see and feel in the room. Lighting in your living room should be both general and diffused. There should be floor lamps for bright lighting as well as arrangements for candlelights to create a romantic mood. Accent lights will add some drama, and highlight areas of the room. Incandescent lighting will add more warmth.
It is important to keep the living room as spacious as possible. Try not to add too much furniture and spoil the finesse of the room. It should be welcoming and clutter-free.
