H3N2 Influenza And Holi: How To Stay Safe While Playing Holi During The Flu Season
During the past few months, a persistent cough accompanied by occasional fever has been spreading throughout India. This widely circulating flu, which is caused by the H3N2 subtype of Influenza A, is causing more hospitalisations than any other subtype of Influenza A [1].

The onset of the flu season is followed by Holi. It is natural for us to be concerned about the spread of illnesses, as we are expected to spend more time outdoors, closely interacting with others, during Holi.
As a result, it is imperative not only to take good care of your skin and hair during the festival, but also to comply with social distancing measures to prevent the spread of infections.
H3N2 Influenza And Holi: Prevention Tips
It is important that you follow these precautions during Holi to prevent infection from the H3N2 virus which has become a cause of concern in India due to its rapid spread [2].
It is clear that the seasonal change is negatively impacting people's health and if appropriate precautions are not taken, people could fall ill as a result of viral infections and chest congestion.
Here are some tips to prevent H3N2 influenza this holiday season, recommended by experts:
- Even small respiratory problems should be reported to a pulmonologist or physician during Holi to prevent the condition from worsening.
- During Holi, the elderly, children, and pregnant women are most susceptible to infection.

- It should be noted that in addition to asthmatics, individuals who suffer from serious lung infections and have difficulty breathing should exercise additional caution because inhaling the colours can cause serious harm to their health [3].
Here are some healthy habits you should follow to avoid the spread of H3N2 amidst the Holi celebrations [4]:
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
- Try to avoid crowded areas and always wear a face mask.
- Keep your hands away from your nose and mouth.
- While coughing and sneezing, cover your nose and mouth appropriately.
- Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
- Take paracetamol if you have a fever or body ache.
On A Final Note...
Experts point out that similar to seasonal flu virus H3N2, other viruses are also in circulation, including H1N1 and adenoviruses and these infections can cause fever, respiratory symptoms like cough and runny nose, as well as other symptoms including body aches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea.

If you suffer from any of the symptoms from fever, or respiratory symptoms like cough and runny nose, you must consult your doctor..
