Yoga Helps To Get Rid Of Depression - Study
A recent study has found that yoga if practiced along with traditional therapies helps ease the symptoms of depression.
Yoga isn't just for losing weight but there are plenty of health benefits of yoga that you might not be aware of. Yoga is now widely practiced across the world by all age group of people and is becoming increasingly popular in the Western countries.
A recent study has found that yoga if practiced along with traditional therapies helps ease the symptoms of depression and other mental disorders.

The study was presented at the 125th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association in Washington DC recently. The researchers has taken into consideration both males and female for the study where in they showed significant efficacy of yoga in reducing depression symptoms.

Hatha Yoga and Bikram Yoga were the two major yogas that were taken up for the experiment. 23 males had taken up twice-weekly Hatha Yoga classes for eight weeks and 52 women had taken up Bikram Yoga for eight weeks.
Following which there was a significant reduction in the depression symptoms. In addition to this, an improved quality of life among the participants were found.
Yet another two studies presented during the convention showed how yoga can be beneficial for chronic depression and stress as well.
The first study involved 12 patients, who had experienced depression for an average of 11 years, participated in nine weekly yoga sessions of approximately 2.5 hours each. The second study involved 74 mildly depressed university students, and compared yoga with a relaxation technique.
The results showed that yoga significantly lowered scores for depression, anxiety and stress.
