Yes, after 8 years of research, a team of experts have found that a substance called acrylamide is formed in French fries, while it is being prepared.

Acrylamide is said to be a carcinogen, or, a cancer-causing agent, by the US government health agencies.
So, French fries can cause the development of cancerous tumours in the lungs, stomach, thyroid glands, etc.
It is best to avoid French fries or bake them instead of deep frying them in oil.
