The festival of Maha Shivratri is finally here and people are quite excited to celebrate it, as they would have been looking forward to it for a year!
Maha Shivratri is a festival which is very popular among the Hindus in India.
During Shivratri, Lord Shiva is worshipped and this festival is known to signify the process of overcoming "ignorance and darkness".
During the occasion of Shivratri, a number of rituals are performed, including fasting the entire night before the day of the festival, singing the praises of Lord Shiva and preparing certain special dishes the next day, to feast on!
Just like in any other Indian festival, many delectable dishes are prepared during Shivratri, including a whole variety of sweets.
Now, in South India especially, a dish called 'Kosambari' is prepared during Shivratri, which is nothing but a healthy salad.
'Kosambari' is made from the mixture of raw, soaked pulses, coriander, carrot, cucumber, salt and lime juice. Some people even add pomegranate and sprouts to this raw mixture.
