Does Sugar Cause Vitamin Deficiencies?
Sugar is capable of much more damage than you have imagined. Yes, it could cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies too.
If you think that excessive sugar consumption can only affect you in a few ways (like insulin spikes, obesity, cancer, diabetes etc), you are mistaken!
Sugar is capable of much more damage. Sugar can also cause nutritional deficiencies. Yes, it can affect the mineral and vitamin levels in the cells.
Sugar could hamper proper absorption of nutrients by your body. Too much of sugar could be a silent killer.

Vitamin C
If you eat too much of sugar, the absorption of vitamin C could get impacted. If your body fails to get enough of vitamin C, your immunity may suffer.

Calcium
Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium well. As sugar affects vitamin D levels, it could indirectly affect calcium absorption too. Sugar could also make the kidneys eliminate calcium. And lack of calcium is bad news for your bones!

Chromium
If you lack enough chromium, your blood sugar levels may go out of control. But the problem with sugar is that it could make your body excrete chromium.

Vitamin D
Sugar can also affect the vitamin D levels in your body by impacting certain enzymes. And when vitamin D levels dip, it could cause inflammation, dementia, certain types of cancers and even infections.

Magnesium
You need magnesium to regulate muscle and nerve functions. But too much of sugar could make your body excrete magnesium. That could lead to magnesium deficiency.

So What?
If not for the fear of obesity, you have another reason to quit eating sweets or control your sugar intake. Nutritional deficiencies are dangerous for your overall health.
