What Pepper Does To Your Body
Pepper is a hot, pungent spice with a host of qualities that contribute to the wellness of human beings. It is used extensively in Ayurvedic medicine. It has an active component called piperine which gives pepper its characteristic taste.
Researchers have found that piperine can improve the bio availability of the compound curcumin twenty fold. Curcumin helps combat cancer, infection, and irritation. Piperine excites amino acid transporters in the lining of the intestine.

Animal studies have shown that piperine inhibits CYP 450 enzymes that metabolize many drugs.Pepper excites our taste buds and increases the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which helps in proper digestion.
By enhancing digestion, pepper alleviates issues like colic, bloating, heartburn, flatulence and constipation.
It also has anti-bacterial properties that help treat intestine diseases caused by bacteria. In addition to adding flavour to the food and promoting digestion, pepper works as an appetite stimulant.

Research demonstrates that pepper helps improve hunger through olfactory stimulus. This makes it a fantastic, simple remedy for all those with an unhealthy appetite.
An Ayurvedic remedy, specially for this purpose, calls for a combination of one and a half teaspoon of pepper and one tablespoon of jaggery powder. Take this mixture on a daily basis until you see any improvement.

Even though it stimulates the appetite, pepper also helps in weight loss. A 2010 study of the after effects of piperine on the metabolic process of mice showed that it suppresses fat build-up within the body.

By improving your metabolic process, this fat free food may help you burn calories.As it is a carminative, pepper alleviates gut gas and also helps prevent gas development. If you are predisposed towards stomach gas, try spicing up your food with pepper rather than chilli powder .
To cure acid reflux and heaviness in your belly, you might have a glass of butter milk combined with a quarter teaspoon each of pepper and cumin powder.

However, this spice should be used in moderation. Excessive intake of black pepper can cause severe burning sensation in the stomach, cause gastrointestinal problems, skin irritation and bleeding noses. Pregnant and breast feeding mothers should also be careful while consuming it.
