World Drug Day: Some Hard Hitting Facts
As today is World Drug Day, you need to be aware of what substance abuse can do to you. And this does not include minor effects like hallucinations and brain damage. These just seem to be words for people. They read it and move on. How about giving you some real life examples of the effects that drugs have on your brain?
Here are some real things that people do when they are under the influence of narcotic drugs for a prolonged period of time.
Pull
Out
Your
Own
Hair
Many
hardened
drug
addicts
develop
bald
patches
on
their
heads
because
they
develop
an
obsession
to
pull
out
their
own
hair.
The
more
they
do
it,
the
more
they
feel
the
urge
to
pull
their
hair.

Scratching
Out
Your
Own
Skin
Many
drug
abusers
have
patches
of
raw
red
skin
on
their
face
and
body.
This
is
because
they
complain
of
a
persistent
'itch'
that
does
not
go
away.
They
keep
on
itching
and
the
skin
becomes
raw
in
the
process.
Fearing
The
Mirror
Many
patent
drug
abusers
fear
to
see
their
own
image
in
the
mirror.
This
is
because
the
long
term
effects
of
drug
abuse
distort
your
face
so
much
that
you
can't
recognise
the
stranger
in
the
mirror
anymore.
It
scares
them
to
look
into
the
mirror
and
see
their
own
distorted
image.
It
is
like
going
through
a
bad
dream.
Forget
Their
Own
Names
Drugs
have
long
lasting
effects
on
the
nervous
system.
If
you
continue
to
take
drugs
for
prolonged
periods
of
time,
you
can
forget
your
own
identity.
You
will
forget
your
name,
your
family
and
where
you
came
from
and
that
will
make
you
turn
into
a
zombie.
Loss
Of
Hearing
When
you
are
on
a
drug
trip,
you
hear
only
what
you
want
to
hear.
Your
mind
blocks
out
all
other
sounds
that
pull
you
back
to
reality.
When
you
start
tripping
on
drugs
regularly,
you
can
permanently
lose
the
capacity
to
hear
normal
human
voices
and
sounds.
Imagine
living
in
a
perpetual
lull.
Hard hitting, isn't it? Drugs cost much more than 'paranoia' and 'dementia' that are just words in the books. Drugs have real symptoms on real people. On World Drug Day, take a pledge to stay away from substance abuse.
