Various Causes Of A White Tongue
Many a days you may have noticed that your tongue is white or coated. This is not a good sign as far as your health is concerned. Usually, people with some health problems have a coated tongue. A white tongue is not healthy even from the perspective of your oral hygiene. This is because, the white layer on your tongue gives rise to foul smell in your mouth.
There may be several reasons for having a coated and white tongue. Here are some of the important things that can be inferred from a white tongue.

Lack Of Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene is of utmost importance when it comes to your oral health. Many major infections enter your body via your mouth. If you have not been using a tongue cleaner to scrap your tongue for a long time, it might look white or coated. The only solution is to use a tongue cleaner every single day.
Dehydration
When you suffer from severe dehydration due to loose motions or heat, your tongue might look white. It is a natural reaction of the tongue cells to scarcity of water in the body. You will also notice that the base of your tongue seems parched. Drink lots of water and fluids to replenish your body with water.
Fever
When you are suffering from high fever, you may have noticed that your tongue looks white and its sides are crumpled. This is also partly due to dehydration. A rise in the body temperature dehydrates you from within. As a result, the tongue shrinks and looks white.
Liver Problems
If you have a white coated tongue despite cleaning it every day, and have no other health problems like fever or dehydration, then you should get your liver function tested. If you have liver problems, you may develop white spots on your tongue.
Smoking
Smoking makes your mouth dry. It also dehydrates the rest of the body but the impact on the mouth is localised and thus severe. That is why, smokers usually have parched and white tongue permanently.
Leucoplakia
Leucoplakia is a kind of skin disease that can be cancerous. If you feel that your tongue is white not due to a coating but a change of colour, then see a doctor immediately. This could be the initial signs of mouth cancer.
These were the various causes of having a white tongue.
