Simple Steps To Prevent Heat Strokes

With the onset of summers, parts of the country is burning with temperatures as high as 45-47 degree Celcius. High temperatures like this pose high chances of heat strokes and other summer sufferings.

Heat stroke is an acute condition of hyperthermia that is caused by prolonged exposure to excessive heat or humidity. In severe cases, if not given medical treatment, it can be fatal too.

In summers avoid going out in the Sun, especially between 12 noon to 4 in the evening. It is the time when the Sun's radiations are at its maximum. If you have to go out due to unavoidable reasons, make sure you take proper precautions.

How to prevent heat strokes:

To prevent chances of heat strokes, you should drink at least 4 litres of water everyday. While going out in the Sun, carry a bottle of water. If possible carry glucose and have glucose water every hour. There are high chances of dehydration, therefore drink as much liquid as possible.

Never go out in the Sun empty stomach. Always have a full meal before stepping out. If empty stomach, your body will absorb more heat and your chances of falling ill will be high.

Eat light food. Avoid oily and spicy food. Oil and spices increase your body temperature, thus avoid eating fried foods of hot dishes as it can cause stomach upset. Eat lots of fruits and low-calorie diet. Fruit juice, lassi, buttermilk are good for the stomach. It absorbs body heat and cools down the stomach. Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol.

Wear clothes that are suitable for summers. Cotton clothes are the best for summers. It allows air to pass through and also absorbs sweat. Wear soothing colours of lighter hues. Prefer light blues, pinks and browns. Avoid wearing colours like red and black in the Sun. Your clothes should not be too tight. Their should be enough breathing space.

Bath at least twice a day. This will help to lower down your body temperature. When you are out in the Sun, try and wash your face with cold water. Wear a cap to protect your head, which is the most sensitive part of your body.

Even after taking precautions if you have nausea, stomach upset, fewer and headache, consult a doctor immediately. Remember, if not treated at the right time, heat strokes can be fatal as well.
