The origin of Yoga in India is one of the valuable gifts to the whole of humanity. The Sanskrit word Yoga meaning Yuj (to bind) has a history of 5,000 years. It was believed that only the sages of ancient days followed the path of yoga (meditation) and such people were called the yogi's. But now after centuries yoga has become more popular and regardless of age and sex they belong to, all can practice yoga if he/she is interested to reap its benefits. It is known to be one of the most effective methods of regenerating the power of the body and to strengthen the resistance power against all illnesses.

Yoga is an energy generator. Unlike the other exercises wherein your body exerts heavily using up all the energy like aerobics and some other mechanical exercises involve the speedy moments making the joints and muscles strain but in yoga the body moments are slow and steady resulting in the improved immunity giving strength and stamina to the body. Yoga is become the method to heal all the health problems one has. It reduces the fatigue making the body more resistant to stress and ailments. The emotional stability is increased with clarity of mind managing the pain it reduces the negative emotions such as fear or misery making it vanish completely. Yoga asanas proves effective in relaxing tension, resulting by making the person to handle stress with more elegance. Lot of medical problems can be handled with less medication. The heart disease, blood pressure, breathing problems and mental disorders are treated effectively with the patients feeling much relief. "Words fail to convey the value of yoga, it has to be experienced."

But before practicing there are a few tips one has to keep in mind.

Yoga asanas are based on the three basic human postures of standing, sitting, or lying down. Yoga postures tone whole body, strengthen bones and muscles. But before performing the yoga asanas some prerequisites have to be fulfilled-

Practice yoga on an empty stomach. Before practicing yoga, wait for few hours if you have had meals.
The best-suited time to practice yoga is early morning hours, but it can be practiced in the afternoon also.
Place should be spacious, clean, well ventilated, bright and away from disturbances.
Dress comfortably. Wear lose clothes during the practice.
Do not practice when you are sick.
Do not try any pose that you think it's hard to perform. If you feel pain or uncomfortable while practicing, stop immediately.
Never perform asanas on bare ground. Always spread a blanket or a mat.
At the time of pregnancy and menstruation, women should avoid poses that stretch the muscles too much, particularly the abdominal muscles.
At the end of the asanas, you must do Shavasana for some time.

To conclude, yoga brings a holistic approach to life and the right approach to asanas could lead us towards self-realization.
