Want To Know How Long You Will Live? This AI Calculator Reveals How Much Time You Have Left
Life is a journey filled with uncertainties. Each day, we juggle responsibilities, pursue our dreams, and spend time with loved ones, all while occasionally pondering the bigger picture.
Have you ever caught yourself pondering about the future-wondering how many more birthdays you'll celebrate or if you'll reach your goals? It's a common human instinct to seek reassurance about our longevity and well-being, especially as we journey through life's ups and downs.
In an age where technology is transforming every aspect of our lives, from how we communicate to how we shop, it's fascinating to see advancements that can impact our health directly.
So, what if there is a tool where you could understand the likelihood of facing serious health issues or even your potential lifespan? This kind of knowledge could empower us to make informed decisions about our lifestyles and healthcare, paving the way for longer, healthier lives.
Now, researchers have developed a groundbreaking AI-enabled "death calculator" that can do just that. This innovative tool uses electrocardiograms, or ECGs, to predict future health risks and potential death, offering a glimpse into what lies ahead.
Predicting Lifespan With The 'AIRE'
Researchers have created an AI-powered tool that could predict how close you are to the end-literally. Published in The Lancet Digital Health, this AI-enabled ECG calculator, known as the AI-ECG Risk Estimator (AIRE), estimates not only a person's risk of health issues like heart failure but also their time to mortality.
The tool was developed using over a million ECGs from patients across the U.S., Brazil, and the U.K., and promises more personalised predictions than previous models, which often lacked clear action steps or biological relevance. Although AIRE's insights aren't yet in everyday medical use, it's a significant step forward in using AI to help people understand and manage their long-term health.
NHS To Trial AI Calculator
Starting mid-next year, two hospitals under the UK's NHS (National Health Service) will trial a new AI "death calculator" that uses a quick ECG to give patients a personalised lifespan prediction. Known as the AI-ECG Risk Estimator (AIRE), this tool scans for hidden health risks that doctors might miss, offering a decade-long mortality prediction with up to 78% accuracy. If all goes well, experts are hopeful it will roll out across the NHS within five years, giving hundreds of patients a clearer picture of their health outlook.
The AIRE platform is designed to be actionable, explainable, and biologically accurate, making it versatile for both short-term and long-term health risk assessments in various clinical settings worldwide. Supported by the British Heart Foundation, National Institute for Health and Care Research, and Medical Research Council, AIRE could soon become a global tool in healthcare.
